Trolley will link City Center and Port Warwick residents

Newport News and Hampton Roads Transit working together to connect two centers

Daily Press ArticleA transportation service, the first of its kind in the area, is being prepared for launch to link two city hubs: City Center at Oyster Point and Port Warwick. The proposed shuttle routes would stop at key points within the regular HRT bus stops to give residents a quick ride— without having to get into their cars— to and from local work, to and from shopping and entertainment.

The fleet of shuttles would resemble airport vehicles and run during key commuting day parts. A plan has been in discussion over the summer and has recently come together for the Newport News City Council's consideration. The rider fee is being determined.

“Being able to put these two together is something we're all very excited about,” said Florence Kingston, Director of Development for Newport News. The possibility for federal/state transportation grant eligibility is being investigated.

Watch for details on this great new transportation option for City Center patrons.
