Ground has been broken and construction is in full swing for a $58 million full-service upscale Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. The most comfortable, 256 amenity-packed guest rooms in the area are scheduled to open in the Summer of 2006. Mayor Joe Frank spoke at the February 24 launch event: We are pleased the Marriott Corporation has so enthusiastically given its vote of confidence to Newport News and the City Center at Oyster Point location.

Hundreds of residential units are underway
City Center's Master Plan now anticipates 600 residential units. 480 units are well on their way. The Park Place Apartments will offer 365 units, The Point at City Center will offer 48 loft and traditional style condominiums, and an 18-story condominium tower adjacent to the Marriott Hotel will offer 72 units. Northwestern Mutual endorses City Center
Northwestern Mutual recently completed its investment in City Center with a transaction valued at over $75 million. City Center Report Card
According to Bill Hudgins, President of HL Development, $76 Million of development has been completed, $140 Million of construction activity is now underway at City Center, and another $62 Million of projects are in the pre-development phase. We originally anticipated a project of approximately $250 million in total cost. We have revised that estimate to $350 million.
